Mary Grabar, Resident Fellow, The Alexander Hamilton Institute for the Study of Western Civilization (AHI), has published an essay “Trump’s Rushmore Speech Exposes Howard Zinn’s ‘Web of Lies’” for American Greatness, a website devoted to the defense of American values and institutions.  “ ‘The radical view of American history,’ President Trump observed, ‘is a web of lies—all perspective is removed, every virtue is obscured, every motive is twisted, every fact distorted, and every flaw is magnified until the history is purged and the record is disfigured beyond all belief.’”  The president may have had in mind, Dr. Grabar believes, the “history” propagated by Howard Zinn whose A People’s History of the United States has sold millions of copies.

Dr. Grabar explains that Zinn’s propagandistic method of lies, distortions, caricatures has been picked up by other writers for the purpose of transforming America. She shows how Zinn has obscenely distorted the lives of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. “Zinn’s presentation of the four presidents carved into Mount Rushmore,” she points out, “certainly would inspire radicals to want to destroy it. To Zinn, George Washington was merely a member of the Federalist Party—the ‘new elite,’ ‘the richest man in America,’ and a land speculator after the Revolution. And for Zinn, the United States of America has no right to exist; he called this nation a ‘pretense.’ So why even acknowledge George Washington as a general and president?”

Dr. Grabar is the author of Debunking Howard Zinn: Exposing the Fake History That Turned a Generation against America (Regnery 2019), which reached best-seller status on Amazon.  A paperback version of her book will be available in a few weeks.
